This week Smalltown DJs new video, “Erased the Night” featuring Lisa Lobsinger was released and is being featured on the Much Music Rotation.
Director, Dan LeMoyne, describes his thoughts behind the video: The record has this great hypnotizing vibe, oozing with nostalgia. I wanted to create this nostalgic yet depressing suburban hellscape, inspired by old Americana and teen films. The 60s diner, the bowling date, the picket fence: the characters disrupt what these romantic scenes are supposed to look like. Reimagining a John Hughes world with a contemporary, alternative take on young love with a touch of retro-futuristic surrealism.
Scott Helman and director Ben Knechtel took a journey to “the last free place in America” – Slab City – to film the new music video for “Kinda Complicated”
Ben shared with us some of the reasons this video is so special, “In many ways I’ve been chasing this video for over 10 years and it manifested perfectly with Scott Helman. We went into the desert with a rough wish list if shots, but it wasn’t until we fully embraced the beautiful chaos of Slab City that magic really started to happen. This video truly embodies my best work to date and I’m extremely thrilled and grateful for the experience. It truly reminds me why I picked up a camera in the first place.”
